Staying protected against data loss is important to me. This is important to me because I spent many years fixing computers and I still get friends and family members that need help with computers. That means I come in contact with a lot of systems with who knows what kind of virus on them.
I did a lot of research on what anti virus package to use. The most helpful resource I found was the AV-Test Organisation. They actually test a bunch of anti virus products against virus to see how the anti virus packages work. This is real testing of virus and anti virus products by a independent 3rd party. Anyway, AV-Test gives each product a 1-6 ranking in three categories - Protection, Repair, Usability. Bitdefender got 6/5/5.5. This was one of the most highly rated anti virus programs out there.

We have it on 3 computers for two years. It is easy to run and much faster than the software from another company we had installed last year. We are completely satisfied.

Computer Too Fast?, May 27, 2012 This review is from: Bitdefender Total Security 2012 Value M1 3Pc/2 Years (CD-ROM) If you cannot keep up with your computer, install a Bitdefender product. I guarantee you that it will slow your computer to a crawl. 2012 and 2011 products work equally well to make certain that you have plenty of extra time to get coffee, take phone calls, visit the restroom or to do other important work during boot-up, shutdown, while surfing the internet, when opening a program, or as you try to perform other, once too fast, computer tasks.
Seriously, before you buy a Bitdefender product, go to the Bitdefender forum site and see what real users have been complaining to the software maker about since 2010. Bitdefender products offer great protection, but when the cure is worse than the disease, you may want to consider another doctor.
